Some taxpayers are starting with Making Tax Digital in 2026.
And, for those taxpayers, 7th August 2026 is an important date to remember.
Who does this apply to?
In 2026, this applies to sole traders or landlords with turnover (gross income before expenses) over £50,000 on their 2024/25 tax returns. This income can come from either self-employment or property, or both. You can check if this applies to you using this interactive checker tool.
What is the important date to remember?
7th August 2026. It is the first quarterly update deadline for these people to report to HMRC.
If you need to submit for MTD this year, what do you need to do?
- Use the MTD compatible software to create digital records of your income and expenses from self-employment and property.
- Submit your first quarterly update to HMRC by August 7th.
