How we can help

A small but significant number of TaxAid’s clients let us know that they experience, or have experienced, mental health problems. This is not surprising as general statistics suggest that

  • 1 in 6 adults has a mental health problem at any one time
  • A disproportionate proportion of such individuals live in debt or poverty

HMRC has a duty under disability law to make ‘appropriate adjustments’ for such individuals.

In addition, many people have particular physical needs as a result of accident or illness. If you experience mental health problems or severe physical health difficulties, TaxAid recognises that you may require special care and attention.

If you phone TaxAid’s helpline (0345 120 3779) or email an enquiry (to info@taxaid.org.uk) , please let us know if you are now receiving, or have in the recent past received, treatment for mental health problems, or mention that you have special physical needs where this is appropriate. It will help us to provide you with the most appropriate support and advice, such as arranging for you to be assigned a particular adviser or making special arrangements for getting in touch by post, email or phone (for example we might arrange to phone you at particular time of day, or agree only to contact you by email.) We may be able to contact HMRC on your behalf to help you take stock.
