The deadline for submitting your 2024/25 online tax return, Saturday 31 January, is fast approaching – but there’s no need to panic. We’ve got a handy guide to where you can get help and information to help you file your tax return on time.
Find information online.
We have information and advice on the Self Assessment section of our website. It breaks down what you need to do and has links to HMRC information and guidance.
HMRC have help and support on completing a tax return, including video tutorials on YouTube, support and guidance and information for those earning income online.
HMRC Extra Support team.
If you need support because of a condition or personal circumstance, or have difficulty using a computer or phone, the HMRC Extra Support Team may be able to help you. Find out more about the HMRC Extra Support team.
Webchat support.
HMRC has a Digital Assistant that can answer your questions through a webchat.
The webchat is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm. On Saturday 31 January, they are open from 8am to 4pm and there will be extra staff to help with the increased number of enquiries.
Other webchats are available including HMRC’s Bereavement helpline (open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm) and the Online Services Helpdesk.
Call the HMRC Self Assessment line.
You can call the HMRC Self Assessment phone line on 0300 200 3310, which is open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.
It is also open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 31 January but advisers will only be able to answer common queries and, where needed, arrange a callback for more detailed support. People who need additional support will be prioritised for call backs.
It’s worth nothing that wait times can be long around the Self Assessment deadline.
