Tax Adviser

This is a role that offers responsibility and autonomy and as one of a small team it will provide you with the opportunity to really make your mark as our strategic plan rolls out. Working on our front line services you will gain exposure to our beneficiaries directly and in helping to resolve their tax problems you will have the opportunity to liaise directly with HMRC. As you work from the initial query on our helpline to the final resolution you will see first hand the difference you can make to our beneficiaries’ lives.

Tax Help for Older People provide support to vulnerable older people with tax problems when they cannot get the help they need from HMRC and cannot afford professional services. The nature of our work and the unpredictability of the questions we are asked means that you will manage a diverse range of personal tax issues and your success will depend on being able to build trust and rapport with the callers to our helpline who are often distressed and anxious.

Tax problems for those without access to professional tax advisers are often bewildering and stressful and getting the tax correct can be critical for those with often precarious financial circumstances. We are therefore looking for someone who is interested in improving people’s lives by using their tax knowledge as well as being supportive and reassuring to those who are vulnerable and need help. In addition we are looking for someone who thrives on working as part of a team as well as communicating effectively with our third sector partners and our volunteers.
This is a part time positon and can be home based. It may suit someone with many years experience looking for a new perspective on the difference your tax knowledge can make to someone’s life or it may suit someone at the start of their tax career looking for the next step.

3/4 days, salary £19,000 – £21,000 FTE plus pension, generous leave entitlement rising with length of service.

Closing date 2 July 2021. Interviews will be held throughout the period of recruitment, so please apply early.

Application process to be CV and covering letter to include why you would like to work in the charitable sector.
