Refunds

We saw above in the section ‘Have you paid the right amount of tax?’, that not everyone will pay the right amount of tax at source. Some people may owe additional tax, some may be due refunds.

If you are under 65, you can use the HMRC tax checker to see if you are due a refund. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/calcs/stc.htm.

You can claim tax back using form R40 – a repayment claim form. There is guidance on how to do this on the HMRC website at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/tdsi/claim-tax-back.htm
