Tax Credits Problems?

Sources of help:

If you need help with your tax credits and you have tried unsuccessfully to sort the matter out with HMRC, you will probably need to contact a local advice agency such as Citizen’s Advice (http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/cabdir.ihtml). TaxAid does not have the resources to undertake casework on tax credits but may be able to provide specialist support if you have not managed to resolve your problem with a local advice agency.

Sources of information:

There is guidance on tax credits on the HMRC website at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/index.htm, but if your problem is complex you may need the more detailed information to be found in the HMRC tax credit manuals, see http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/people-advise-others/manuals-rates/manuals/index.htm

You may also need to consult the HMRC Debt Management and Banking Manual, tax credit section if your problem concerns the recovery of tax credit overpayments http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/dmbmanual/DMBM555000.htm HMRC’s leaflets on various aspects of tax credits can be found at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/forms-and-leaflets/leaflets.htm

There is a useful guide to overpayments written by Advice now. It can be found at:
