Email Scams – watch out for fake refund offers

Please be aware that emails claiming to be from HMRC and offering refunds of tax are fake. The emails can appear quite genuine (see example below), but HMRC never sends emails notifying tax refunds, neither does it ask for confidential information by email -  see http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/security/phishing-emails.htm

If you receive such an email do not reply to it.  Instead, consider forwarding it to HMRC at phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk

If you have replied to a susupect email, consider emailing summary details to HMRC at security.custcon@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk.
